Food Scrap & Organic Composting LegislationWhat happens to the all the food scraps generated by schools, businesses, homes and organizations? Where do the apple cores, banana peels, meat bones go? These nutrient-rich food scraps are thrown into our garbage and end up in landfills.
On 8/13/09, Governor Quinn signed an important bill, SB99, into law. This public act allows food scraps to be composted and diverted from landfills in Illinois.
